The Bureau of the Fiscal Service plays a central role in advancing payment integrity across the federal government by helping agencies prevent, detect, and resolve improper payments. Through its governmentwide services, BFS supports agencies in strengthening internal controls, improving data use, and ensuring payments are accurate and paid to eligible recipients.
Start Today with Financial Integrity
The Do Not Pay program is the cornerstone of the bureau’s payment integrity work. Do Not Pay is a governmentwide resource that enables federal agencies and states administering federally funded programs to verify an individual or entity’s identity, eligibility, and bank account information before a payment is issued. By providing access to authoritative data sources and advanced analytics, Do Not Pay helps agencies identify potential risks and cut improper payments before they occur.
This work is supported by Payment Integrity and Resolution Services (PIRS), BFS’s nationwide service location responsible for payment resolution work. PIRS helps agencies with the recovery and resolution of misdirected payments. Payment Integrity and Resolution Services also serves as the continuity site supporting payment disbursement and print production operations for BFS’s Federal Disbursement Services office in Kansas City.
