The Disputes and Proof of Debt (DPOD) Branch is a Treasury Department, Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) program responsible for verifying the validity of debts referred for Cross Servicing and ensuring that due process is followed when a debtor challenges the debt. 

When a debtor disputes a debt or requests Proof of Debt, DPOD coordinates with creditor agencies, analyzes documentation, and processes all required case actions under established procedures and timelines. 

In this training, we’ll cover the following topics: 

The Dispute Process 
o    designated DPOD email channels for disputes
o    receipt and logging of the dispute
o    timelines
o    review and initial assessment (and coordination with the creditor agency)
o    DPOD’s process for the agency’s response, and 
o    debtor notification 
o    reporting issues with disputes

Proof of Debts (POD)
o    designated DPOD email channel for PODs
o    documentation needed to constitute a POD
o    timelines 
o    process for POD requests
o    DPOD process for POD requests
o    reporting issues with PODs
