The Social Security Administration (SSA) disburses payments four days during a month: the third day of the month and the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month. The process to disburse these payments starts days in advance, while payee status could still change each day (for example, deceased, bank account, or address update).
Do Not Pay, Federal Disbursement Services, and SSA implemented a revised schedule giving SSA one more day to update payee information. SSA projects they will prevent more than $100 million in improper payments annually because of the new schedule. Do Not Pay continues to explore payment schedule adjustments with SSA and engage with other recurring benefit paying agencies.
