Centralized Receivables Service (CRS)
Working closely with Fiscal Service's Debt Management, we created a way to help agencies by collecting the money owed to them. We shaped the basic foundation and framework for this project and then gave it to Debt Management to develop further.
The problem FIT was solving
Agencies vary in their ability to collect debts. Across the government, hundreds of program areas use unique solutions with different business processes. Many agencies suffer from fragmented, manual, and less-than-optimal ways to manage their receivables.
The benefits of FIT's solution
Using centralized servicing, a civilian federal agency can:
- offload the end-to-end management of receivables
- increase how much of the money they are owed is collected
- reallocate resources to focus on the agency's mission
This service also helps the whole government because it:
- increases the amount of money collected
- cuts the number of debts that become overdue (delinquent)
- cuts the cost of maintaining many systems
- improves the quality and transparency of data
- supports the initiative to change the government to entirely electronic
