FIT’s Spring Cleaning is Complete

Date: April 20, 2018

The spring season is full of transformations. The leaves we saw fall and flowers we saw wilt are now budding into lush, green, picture-perfect plants. Aside from the weather’s transformations, we are transforming too!

FIT took a hard look at the Business Use Case documents, which are part of our library of standard references for financial management. We found the content to be solid, but not well-organized and intuitive to follow. A bit of spring cleaning was required to renew their usefulness. So we took out our duster, vacuum and mop and went to work.

What you’ll find now is an overview that gives background and more suggestions on ways the Business Use Cases can be combined to tell the whole story of a transaction – from budget to reporting. The Business Use Cases are now organized in 11 documents, one for each process, so you can find a specific type of transaction more easily.

The Financial Management Working Group, led by FIT, is also taking an annual look at the Federal Financial Management System Requirements and the FM Functions & Activities List. The goal is to establish a formal repeatable update process – like spring cleaning – to carry out every year at this time. If you would like to be involved in this project, and other projects the working group is engaged in, please contact us at FIT@fiscal.treasury.gov.
